WELCOME BACK
Well, it’s time to start our new Cub Scouting year once again. We
hope your summer was filled with safe fun and all sorts of family activities.
The Pack leadership wants to remind you that we are getting old. Many
of us will be retiring from Cub Scouting in a few short months. It
is essential that our positions be filled with new adults.
Specifically, we are in urgent need for fundraising
and newsletter help. In addition, in order to insure a smooth
transition, assistants for Cubmaster and Committee Chair are also needed.
Please contact any leader for details on just how you
can help.
PARENT TRAINING
The ALL VOLUNTEER leaders in Scouting are fortunate to have a training
process that makes the job a whole lot easier.
To begin with, BSA encourages ALL PARENTS to take Youth
Protection Training. This investment of less
than one hour gives you tremendous insights as to the physical
and emotional development of young boys. It can be taken
at any Roundtable (see calendar) or you can just do it online at:
http://olc.scouting.org/info/ypt.html
The next step in the process is Fast Start
Training. In
less than 30 minutes you can gain an understanding of the position
you are in. It is offered for den leaders, Webelos den leaders,
Cubmaster, etc. Even if you are not the leader, viewing this
will help you see what the leader is trying to do and maybe you can
see ways to help. It too can be taken online at: http://olc.scouting.org/info/csfs.html
For those who are taking an active part in leadership, New
Leader Essentials is a “live” class
that gives you a deeper understanding of the organization and operation
of the Scouting program. This course can be taken at any
Roundtable or at any FULL training class (see calendar) starting
about 12:30PM.
Cub Leader Specific training
is another “live” class
that focuses on the details associated with a specific position (Tiger
Den Leader, Den Leader, Webelos Den Leader, Cubmaster or Pack Leader). Refer
to the calendar.
As you can see, the training process is structured to help any leader
be more efficient and it can help all parents be more effective.
As one who has served full-time on the training staff in the past
and currently as a fill-in, when needed, I will guarantee you that
the investment of your time in these offerings will bring HUGE returns.
Please contact me with any questions you may have. Also,
let me know if / when you complete any of these worthwhile courses. Your
feedback is desired.
